Scott Michaels, talks to Wireless Week about recent patent infringement lawsuits and the implications for developers

Scott Michaels, Atimi Software Vice President Client Services, recently had the opportunity to speak with Maisie Ramsay of Wireless Week about the rise of patent infringement lawsuits in mobile development.

In recent months “patent trolls” like Lodsys have been filing patent infringement lawsuits against small and larger developers alike, over development practices that Scott considers to be common place. Scott blames vague patents that allow for broad lawsuits against many developers, when in fact the suit itself is not guaranteed to affect the end product.

These types of lawsuits hamper small developers and waste the time of larger companies who need to focus on running their business and developing apps. At the end of the day, Michaels views this as part of doing business, and should be expected due to the growing nature of the wireless industry.
