The New York Knicks Official app caught the attention of online news source Mobile Marketer, which featured an article yesterday about its recent iPhone and Android release.
The article, which provided a run-down of the app’s many features, included a number of quotes from Howard Jacobs, the executive vice president of marketing and sales at MSG Sports.
“This new mobile app is the next step to integrating all of our digital assets so that fans can get all the latest Knicks news, highlights and behind-the-scenes content whenever they want, wherever they are,” Jacobs was quoted.
With traffic to the team’s two official websites, NYKnicks.com and KnicksNow.com increasing 84% year-over-year, it’s only natural that the Knicks decided to step up their game on the mobile front.
They’re also using a StarStar number strategy to spread the word about the app by prompting fans through SMS, email, web, social media, television, in-arena signage, and street team promotion to call **KNICKS from their mobile devices to receive a SMS message with a link to download the app.
Based on initiatives like these, there’s no question the Knicks understand the importance and power of mobile, and no doubt that droves of existing and new loyal fans will be downloading the app in the weeks to come.
